NHBC Logo

You will hear the term NHBC frequently when buying a new home. However, unless you have previously bought a new home, you may not have prior knowledge of who they are and what relevance they have to you as a new home owner.

Q What is NHBC?

NHBC is the standard setting body, leading warranty and insurance provider for 85% of all new homes in the UK. Established over 65 years ago as a non-profit distributing company, NHBC's primary purpose is to help raise standards in the new house building industry and provide consumer protection for new homeowners.

Who are their customers?

NHBC's two main customers are homebuyers and registered house builders. They provide buyers of new homes with a 10-year 'Buildmark' warranty and insurance protection, whilst their comprehensive range of products and services assist registered house builders to improve the quality of new homes.

Q What does NHBC do?

The NHBC is a non-profit making body that ensures new homes are built to stringent standards. Its aim is to ensure that your new home is a quality product that takes account of all the latest technical knowledge and building techniques. To achieve this, the NHBC registers developers and builders as being competent to build. It also sets new technical standards and has a substantial team of inspectors who check homes, whilst they are being built to monitor standards of construction work.

Q Does ‘Buildmark’ cover my new Strathclyde Home?

Yes, your new Strathclyde Home is covered in full by the 10-year NHBC Buildmark warranty, with Strathclyde Homes undertaking specific additional warranties during the first 24 months. The NHBC Buildmark is a sign that your new Strathclyde Home has been built completely to NHBC standards. For full details on the extent of the Buildmark warranty cover please refer to the NHBC handbook that you will receive on entry to your new home.
